Questions people actually ask
Do I need my own guitar?
To start, no — I bring a spare for the first lesson or two so you can find out whether you like it before spending anything. After that, I will happily help you pick one that suits your hands and your budget; you do not need an expensive instrument.
My child is 7 — is that too young?
Usually around 7-8 works well if they can reach around the neck of a small guitar and can concentrate for half an hour. For younger children, 30-minute lessons work better than 60. Tell me a bit about them and I will be honest with you.
Do you teach theory or exam grades?
Only if you want them. Most students want to play songs, so we learn theory as it becomes useful — enough to understand what you are playing, not a syllabus for its own sake. If you do want graded exams, I can structure lessons around them.
What checks do you have?
A clear French criminal record extract (bulletin n°3) and a clear UK police certificate (ACRO), covering my time in both countries. I am happy to show both — just ask. I also carry professional liability insurance, and lessons with children happen with a parent at home or nearby.
Can we pause for the school holidays?
Of course. Lessons are booked as you go — no term contracts, no minimum commitment. Tell me when you are away and we pick up when you are back.
Which language are lessons in?
English. Most of my students are international-school families, expats or visitors. My French is a work in progress — for beginners in French, I am probably not the right teacher, and I will say so.
